Windsor A Channel Kept On Air

CTV will continue to operate its Windsor A channel through August 2010, and credits the CRTC's decision to increase funding to the Local Programming Improvement Fund for its ability to keep it on the air.

" 'Today's announcement about saving Windsor's only local private television station for one year is a direct result of the CRTC's one year LPIF enhancement,' " said Paul Sparkes, executive vice-president of corporate affairs for CTVglobemedia.

CTV had been looking for a buyer for its Windsor, Wingham, Ont. and Brandon, Man. stations, and said that if the stations were not bought, they would likely be shut down.

CTV said it will apply to convert its Wingham station to a full rebroadcast of its London A channel, while it will " 'continue to review its options including the potential sale' " of its Brandon station.
