Nielsen: DVR Playback Doubles, More Ads Watched

Nielsen says viewers watch between 40% and 50% of commercials during DVR playback. These numbers have climbed from previous estimates, where viewers were watching anywhere between 30% to 40%.

Rainbow Shines: TV Nets Spike 18%

Cablevision's Rainbow unit, which posted a gain in ad revenue during the economic doldrums last summer, saw accelerated 18% growth at its AMC, We and IFC networks in the April-July quarter. That came after the 2% increase a year ago in the period.

Sinclair Broadcasting said total revenues jumped 17.2% during the second quarter of 2010, attributing the double-digit increase to broadcast revenue, which increased 19.3% from $133 million to $158.7 million over the same period.

Fox Codes Uses Ads to Pitch Shows

New scanning technology will be attached to specific Fox advertising materials for consumers to use to access more content of Fox shows. Known as Fox Codes, the effort comes from a technology called "quick response codes" - more of an update on barcodes, a square-ish looking computer graphic.
