With hopes to expand its popular English-language service, The Fight Network Inc. has submitted an application to the CRTC to launch a new national French-language specialty channel called Le Réseau des Combats. This channel would mainly serve Quebec, New Brunswick, and Manitoba, and broadcast news, fights, variety shows, movies, interviews and analysis, which will be offered in high-definition format. The Network proposes that 20% of broadcasting during the year will come from category 7 programming, which are mainly theatrical feature films.
In addition, Clovys Media Corporation has applied for a licence to operate a national French-language channel that will mainly carry urban music and black culture. If approved, the channel will be called Chaine Ethnoculturelle Clorvys Entertianment Channel.
The proposed channels will be considered as part of a public hearing by the CRTC which begins on September 24, 2008.
