StatsCan's 2007 Television Report

According to Statistics Canada's 2007 Television Report, advertising revenue for the TV sector edged up 1.8% last year.  Revenues for the specialty TV segment rose 8.0%.  Its two main sources of income (subscriptions and advertising revenues) both increased.

The pay TV segment had the strongest growth in the entire television sector, driven mainly by the increasing popularity of pay-per-view TV and video-on-demand.  Revenues from these services rose 25.8% to $197.8 million in 2007, accounting for almost two-thirds of the growth in the pay TV segment.

Conventional TV represented 55.9% of all TV broadcasting revenues in 2007, less than the 79.4% a decade earlier.

The profit margin before interest and taxes for all private television broadcasters increased slightly between 2006 and 2007.  Pay and specialty TV channels accounted for nearly 85% of private television profits last year.
