While Rogers Media took control of the Citytv network, it did not takeover the local news cable channel CP24. CTVglobemedia kept ownership of that station when it bought former owner CHUM. As a result, Rogers is applying to the CRTC for a category 2 digital specialty licence for a new channel to serve Toronto.
The CRTC's notice of public hearing reads, " 'the applicant states that most of its programming will be sourced from its local television -- OMNI and Citytv stations -- and radio news properties. The programming will consist of a mix of local news, traffic, weather, business, sports and entertainment information devoted exclusively to residents in the Greater Toronto and commuting areas.' "
