One in Five New TV Purchases in the U.S. Will Be 3DTVs By 2013, Says In-Stat

The excitement over 3D has found its way to the consumer electronics market, and market research firm In-Stat predicts that one in five new TVs sold in the U.S. will be 3D in the next three years.

According to the report US Consumer Electronic Device Tracker: Shipments and Installed Base, year-over-year shipment growth will be 231% between 2010 and 2011, resulting in a doubling of the U.S. installed base of units for 3DTVs from this year to next.

"High definition did create a wave of activity in the U.S. market, not seen since the introduction of colour," said In-Stat analyst Stephanie Ethier. "3DTV promises to be the next significant innovation wave for living room entertainment."
