According to a U.S. study by PriceGrabber.com, 57% of the 1,915 online electronics consumers polled say they own an HDTV, up from 30% just a year ago. LCD TVs are the preferred HDTV technology, with 57% saying they own one.
Of those people polled that don't already own an HDTV, almost 75% said they plan to purchase one within the next year.
The average price for LCD and plasma HDTVs has dropped 13%, while the average price for rear-projection HDTVs has decreased 27% over the last two years. PriceGrabber explains, however, that " '50 percent of HDTV owners indicate that their primary motivation for purchasing an HDTV was not significant price drops, but rather the improved picture and audio quality derived from switching from standard-definition to HD programming.' "
Of those polled, 56% admit to watching over 6 hours of TV per week, while 30% say they watch over 10 hours weekly. In addition, 64% say they watch all their programs on a traditional TV, while just 3% say they watch on their computer.
