CRTC Issues New Cat B Licence Conditions

The CRTC outlined new conditions of licence Tuesday for Category B specialty television services.

The new basic conditions of licence include obligations to provide closed-captioning for all programming, to adhere to the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Equitable Portrayal Code and to follow the pay television and pay-per-view programming code regarding violence.

The CRTC also said it expects licensees to make their programming accessible by providing described versions of programming whenever possible.

Effective immediately, the new conditions and expectations will be applied to all new applications for Category B pay and specialty services.
