The CRTC has approved an application by MTT Networks for a broadcasting licence to operate a Class 1 terrestrial broadcasting distribution undertaking to serve Toronto and the surrounding areas. MTT is controlled by its majority shareholder, president and CEO Selvaruban Ruban Selvarajah. In its application dated March 6, 2009, MTT asked to distribute the Buffalo signals of the four U.S. commercial networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX) and the non-commercial PBS network in its basic service; the Buffalo signal of WNYO-49 (Warner Brothers) on a digital discretionary basis; plus any of the distant Canadian television signals set out in the Part 3 eligible satellite services list and a second set of the U.S. 4+1 signals on a digital discretionary basis. MTT further said that it intends to distribute "a wide range" of Category 2 services that are not currently distributed by larger BDUs, and that it would seek a licence for a VOD service.
