Following announcements by the CRTC, conventional television broadcasters are now free to air as many ads per hour as they wish, up from the maximum of 15 minutes per hour under previous regulations.
After increasing the number of ad minutes per hour that so-called "over the air" or "free" broadcasters can air, from 12 in 2006 to 15 in 2008, the CRTC has now lifted the cap altogether. Specialty channels still face a 12 minutes maximum.
