Corus Entertainment's application for a specialty television service called Local1 has been withdrawn from a CRTC hearing planned for April 14. The application hearing will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Local1 application proposes "hyper-local" news and information channels for 64 markets in Western Canada.
Corus' application says the channel would repackage information from third-party subscription services such as The Canadian Press for local audiences.
Local1 is now campaigning online "for your help in obtaining our license from the CRTC," according to its Twitter account.
"CRTC temporarily pulled Local1 from the April hearings b/c It feels we need our own separate hearing. Still cooking & still needs support!" Local1 tweeted on March 8, 2010.
