Software [back to video library]
To use the Online Library you must have Microsoft Silverlight installed on your computer. If you are able to enter the library, you have Silverlight.
If you do not have Silverlight installed, upon your first access of the library you should be prompted to download and install the software. If this does not happen and you are unable to enter the library, please visit Get Silverlight to download the software for free.
The Initial View [back to video library]
When you log onto the online video library it immediately performs a search based on the last search parameters used and serves the results. These are the video you first see after logon.
Each result page will contain 50 results (unless less than 50 commercials meet your search parameters). You will be able to scroll through all result pages by using the scroll/number bar at the bottom of each result page. You can change pages by selecting a page number or by using one of the controls.
Sorting Results [back to video library]
You can change the order of your results by selecting an information field, and/or sorting in ascending or descending order.
Using Filters to Define Your Search [back to video library]
You can narrow down the number of results by using the filter options to define the parameters of your search. For each parameter, the criteria you have selected and therefore the criteria on which the search results are based will be shown in orange font within square brackets beside each parameter. If no search parameters have been set, [Any] will appear beside each filter option. To set a search parameter click the filter icon to the right of each option to enter your criteria.
When entering your search criteria, start typing what you are looking for and the search box will provide you with several options to choose from as you type. The more you type, the smaller the list of selections will become. Choose the one that best suits your search e.g. if you are looking for General Motors commercials starting typing "gen" in the Advertiser filter box and the search system with provide options as depicted below.
You may use several filter options at the same time to highly define your search. To clear your filters you can choose "Clear All Filters" to reset all filters options, or you can remove one or more at a time by clicking the red remove icon to the right of each filter option.
As you use the filter system, the library saves your recent filters so that you may quickly reuse them. To select a recent filter click the filter bar to see your list of recent filters. To hide the list click the filter bar again.
Previewing Commercials [back to video library]
Every result will have a still frame depicting a scene in the commercial. As a means to help users identify specific spots, a truncated version of every spot is available for viewing. To view a clip of the spot click View Video.
In some cases a video file will contain a slate of credits at the beginning of the spot, and in some cases the slate may be on screen for the entire duration of the preview. If this is the case, or if a video file has become corrupt and is not viewable, please use the "Report a Problem" feature on the preview window so that TVB may correct the problem.
Selecting a Commercial and Checking Out [back to video library]
If you have found a commercial you wish to acquire from the library you may add it to your Shopping Cart from the result screen or the preview screen by clicking "Add to Shopping Cart".
When you do this you will be taken to your Shopping Cart and presented with the entire contents of the cart. If the video you have selected has a price, you will see the Sub-Total of your selection (the sub-total price does not include tax). You may remove any or all items, or change the quantity of items using this screen. To recalculate your total click Update.
To continue searching for commercials click "Back to Video Library". From the Results screen you may return to your Shopping Cart at any time by clicking "Go To My Reel" under the filter options section.
If you wish to checkout, click the "Checkout" button in the Shopping Cart. You must agree to the terms & conditions in order to checkout. Please note that access to commercials in the TVB library is subject to the copyright laws of Canada and such commercials may only be used for research and/or educational purposes.
After you have agreed to the terms & conditions you must select a delivery option.
For immediate access to the video select "Online Download". If you wish to receive the video on a DVD select "Standard Delivery" or "Express Delivery". There is a charge for both "Standard Delivery" and "Express Delivery" therefore to proceed further you must supply credit card, billing and delivery information. If any of the video selected has a price, you must supply credit card and billing information. Credit Card is the only accepted method of payment. Once this information has been entered you will be asked to submit your order.
If you have selected "Online Download" you will be taken to a screen with the details of your order which will contain a direct download link for each video file.
If you selected "Online Download" as your shipping method but did not download the video from the "Order Details" page above, you can download them from your "Profile" page on TVB.ca.
To go to your profile page go to http://www.tvb.ca/, log in, and click the "Profile" button to the left of the search box. You can also go directly to your TVB.ca profile at anytime by using the following url http://www.tvb.ca/profile.aspx.
At the top of your Profile page click "Order History" to view your orders and download the video.
