TV Technology Survey

According to a survey by Nanos Research about TV technology in Canada (commissioned by Sharp Electronics of Canada):

  • the market for flat panel TVs grew by 72% in 2007, with sales of LCD TVs increasing by 84.4%
     
  • projected sales figures from the Consumer Electronics Marketers of Canada for 2008 show a market demand of 2.75 million units 
     
  • 48% of Canadians said they weren't knowledgeable about such HDTV features as 1080p resolution and pixel response times
     
  • 60% of women said they weren't knowledgeable about HDTV features compared to less than 40% of men
     
  • 48% rated concerns such as power consumption and toxins used in manufacturing as very important when determining which HDTV they will buy
     
  • 53% prefer LCD to plasma screens
     
  • 29% of Canadians get their information about new TV models from TV ads and programs, compared to only 20% from print media and 16% from weblogs and product websites
